I have now set up the front and side profile within 3D Studio Max.

To make the front plane

It was very simple, all that had to be done was to create a plane, that only had 4 vertex's. Then turn the image into an editable poly then use UVW mapping. I used UVW mapping instead of adding the bmp. to a material and then assigning it on the plane it would adjust the image to fit onto the plane and the sizes of the face would be out of proportion

UVW Maps ensure that the scale of the face was correct to the original image. (Not Squished or anything.)

To make the side plane

Instead of doing the whole process over again, there was a cheecky little trick to save some time.

Simpley copied the front plane into a side one, by holding shift and the move tool. Rotate it 90 degrees to the right then by moving the image with the UVW Gizmo tool, (also checking the flip option) so that the side of the head faces the correct way.

The planes have been positioned further back that where the model will be, this is so that when creating the model it does not cut into the planes and stop me from seeing parts of the modeling.

Problems that occured

When making the planes and assigning the images as explained above, i noticed that the typology on my face had become all distorted and was basically worthless as I could not follow it as a guide, I found out from looking online and Jo's blog that I needed to change the direct x settings, I found that changing mine to direct x 10 worked perfectly.

Whats next??

The next stage will be going round the topology with the line tool and making a "spline" of the model. (I know you are becoming excited to see the next stage but you will have to be patient!!)
