How to get both sides of the Face
It is now time to mirror my face, so that it has both sides.
I wanted to make sure that once it had been completed, I was to make changes to one side of the face would effect the other, instead of having to change points on both sides when any changes needed to be made.
Mirror Image
I tried the first approach of simply using the mirror tool, lets just say that this did not turn out that well. For some reason it would only show up the outline and would not fill the area like a normal editable poly. I tried changing all the settings functions and features and nothing seemed to work. Luckily this was not the preferred way to create the face and there were better methods.
Symmetry Modifier
I then used the symmetry modifier, this worked like a charm. It did have a gap in the middle to start with but i just needed to align up some points so that they were connected and the gap was closed. I prefer using this method instead of mirroring, because its a modifier it can be turned off or simply removed if needed. Also as mentioned before it copies any changes that are made to the starting side of the face.
Quick look with the turbo smooth on??
I just wanted for my own amusement to see how it looked once it had been turbo smoothed, it really gives the model some more life and makes all the curves allot more natural. I will be turning this Modifier off for the moment as it will make things allot harder while modeling the back of the head. It can also turn on numbs and this can really make modeling harder if left on.
Whats next???
I have now created the so called "mask" it is now a case of adding the facial elements such as the nose, lips then moving onto adding the back of the head and neck as well as probably the hardest detail the ear.
The Amazing Blog of Daniel Reeve
The blog that you see before you is an online thinking place for all my University Work. Before you laugh most of it contains 3D work, which I would not call my best area of expertise!! I am a 2D Illustrator at heart but love to try out new stuff and see what else I can create.
My personal website DJR DESIGNS is in the navigation bar at the top, if you want to see some of my best work and designs. If not then carry on reading and discover how an amateur 3D designer works :D
